The Shaler Township Police Department is commanded by Public Safety Director Jeffrey D. Gally.  The Director is also the Emergency Management Coordinator for the Township and thereby responsible for the public safety during a disaster.  Our department is community and service oriented.  The department is staffed twenty-four hours a day by a staff of twenty-four sworn officers including two lieutenants, four Sergeants, three Detectives, and fifteen Patrolmen.  The Director is assisted by a part-time civilian Administrative Assistant and a part-time civilian Records Clerk.

Within the department officers serve in many capacities.

  • The Patrol Division is the largest and most often has the first contact with the residents.  We participate in a program to provide cellular telephones to senior citizens, in addition to giving crime prevention talks.
  • The Detective Division is responsible for follow up on complaints and investigations.
  • The Traffic Division has two motorcycle officers who in addition to traffic enforcement provide escort and control during parades or dignitary protection.  The Traffic Officers have initiated several programs that target teen drivers.  The Ticket 'n Stuff program has become a model for other departments.  The Traffic Officers participate in the school program designed to teach teens about alcohol or impaired driving before the Prom.
  • The Juvenile / Crime Prevention section is a compilation of several different officers.  The officers who handle the Crime Prevention duties are additionally assigned to the Patrol Division.

This is a brief overview of the services offered by the department.  For more information, feel free to contact the department.
